教材内容分析

This unit is the eighth unit in the first volume of Grade 8 Go for it. This unit mainly focuses on “How do you make a banana milk shake?” and takes imperative sentences as key sentence patterns to describe the food-making process. At the same time, students can learn to share their own experiences and happiness with others.

In Section A, students are supposed to use imperative sentences to describe the process of making food. This part also presents some food nouns, so that students can understand the concepts of countable nouns and uncountable nouns, and further summarize the rules of the formation and use of plural nouns. Section B introduces more vocabulary about food. Listening and speaking activities, reading activities and collaborative activities are all centered on the steps of making food. Students can further talk about kinds of food making process. 

The reading material for this unit is about the history of Thanksgiving Day and the steps of making a turkey dinner. The post-reading activities enable students to reproduce the information in the text through grasping key information, 

which can not only deepen the understanding of the article, but also prepare for the writing 

later. So the topic of “How do you make a banana milk shake?”                 is close to students’ life, and can easily arouse students’ interest in learning and make them willing to participate in relevant activities.

Key points:

1.Students can learn how to ask questions about the number of things with how many and how much.

2.Students can master verbal phrases and sequence words that describe a process as mentioned above.

3.Students can improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities about making food.

Difficult points:

1.Students can use the imperative sentences to express the food preparation process appropriately.

2.Students can distinguish countable nouns from uncountable nouns and use quantifiers to measure some uncountable nouns.

3. The students can understand the western food production and the students can feel the difference between Chinese and western culture in language.
