ABSTRACT:Public signs refer to the words and graphic information for advice, instruction, proposal and warning in relation to different aspects of life. Having the special communicative function, public signs play a role of "city face" and affect foreigners' first impression on China when they travel here. For the convenience of foreigners' traveling in China, many scenic spots provide Chinese-English public signs for them. This thesis attempts to study the public signs translation in Chongqing International Garden Expo from the perspective of Skopostheorie. To be the basic theory of German Functional Category, Skopostheorie points out that different purposes will lead to different translational actions and guide these actions in each specific case. The criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of the public signs translation are based on the three rules of Skopostheorie: Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. This thesis aims to analyze the disadvantages in the public signs translation, to discuss the methods and strategies used in the public signs translation and to come up with better translation for the improper ones. This thesis shows that there are many mistakes in signs translation and they would make foreigners confused, even distorted. This thesis suggests that perfect translation of public signs in scenic spots is an important task and translators should pay more attention to their translation quality. 摘要: 公示语是指面对大众的, 与生活各方面息息相关的表示告示、指示、建议和警示的文字及图形信息。因为具有特殊的交际功能,公示语作为“城市的面孔”直接影响外国友人对中国的第一印象。为了方便外国人士的在华旅行,许多旅游景点都设置了汉英翻译的公示语。本文试从翻译目的论视角对重庆园博园的公示语翻译进行研究。作为德国功能派的理论基础,目的论指出,不同的目的会导致不同的翻译行为并且指导人们的翻译行为。此外,公示语翻译效率的理论标准基于目的论三原则:目的原则,连贯原则,忠诚原则。本文旨在从目的论视角,分析公示语翻译中的不足之处,讨论公示语中常用的翻译手法和策略,提出一些更好更恰当的翻译。本论文研究表明,公示语翻译仍存在很多问题,这些问题会使外国友人感到迷惑,甚至扭曲误解其真正含义。本文认为完善旅游景点公示语的翻译是一个非常重要的任务,旅游景点公示语的翻译应该享有与著作翻译、杂志翻译、商标翻译等平等的地位,受到重视。 关键词:公示语 旅游景点 目的论
