Abstract: This paper aims to make a thorough comparison of English and Chinese abbreviations, explain their similarities and differences from the perspective of structure, pronunciation, grammar, rhetoric and at the same time tries to point out the problems in using them and the points that should be paid attention to so as to offer effective advice in the cross-cultural communication.
