Abstract: This study, by analyzing the similarities between Buck and Jack London, aims to interpret the latter's views on life in The Call of the Wild. Buck and Jack London experience the analogical conditions and both struggle unremittingly against all kinds of adversity. Buck's life proves that the fittest survives, which is what Jack London wants to expound in the novel. Buck's returning to the wild implies that Jack London longs for the freedom and individuality. Loves between Buck and Thornton suggest that Jack London is eager for true love. What Buck experiences show that the reality is cruel—no pain, no gain. Jack London makes every effort to survive in this troubled world and looks for his own freedom and true love, which is the most important thing he cares about in his life. This paper concludes that Buck's struggle for survival and its persistence in the story is a reflection of Jack London's interpretation of life.
