Abstract: This thesis, by researching some of the most popular American TV plays, aims to reveal some problems existing in subtitle translation of U.S TV series and analyze their causes, thus to investigate the proper use of domestication strategy in U.S TV series subtitle translation. In the meantime, it sums up the features of subtitle translation with American plays’ language investigated for the purpose of stressing the importance of the domestication strategy in subtitle translation. In addition, this study also reveals some problems in the application of domestication strategy. By doing this research, the writer hopes that the online translators should be more careful with the use of domestication strategy while translating subtitles.
