摘要： 本文主要研究诺曼时期法语对英语造成的影响，综合诸多当前语言学研究成果，从词汇、表达、和语法三大方面研究法语对英语变化的作用。要了解英语的变化，就要了解历史背景。本文会先从历史事件下手，介绍诺曼政府的时间、缘由和对当时英国社会造成的影响。在对词汇进行研究时，本文首先从英语中的法语外来词出发，再对英语受法语影响的拼写规则进行研究。以词汇角度研究是因为在诺曼时期有大量的法语外来词涌入英国，从而使词汇这一方面变成了最显而易见的证据。然后本文将阐明法语对英语的日常用语和表达的影响。在这一方面，我们可以看出法语的进入对英国人民的生活产生的影响。随后我将说明法语对英语语法上的影响。最后，在对全文进行总结之前，我还会对英语为什么在法语强势入侵的背景下生存下来的原因进行简单解释。
