Abstract:  This article introduces the requirements set up in the National English Curriculum Standard for middle school English reading teaching. After presenting the current situation of the English reading teaching, the author focuses on overcoming some problems existing in the present reading teaching under the new curriculum standard so as to optimize English reading teaching in the middle school. It is concluded that English teachers in the middle school may make full use of the advantages of the guidelines offered in the National English Curriculum Standard for junior middle school English teaching. They can arouse students’ learning interest for English reading, create favorable class atmosphere, reduce students’ learning burden, and finally achieve the aims of improving the efficiency of classroom teaching and enhancing students’ efficiency to study English.

摘要：本文介绍了新课程标准对中学英语阅读教学的要求，在呈现了目前的英语阅读教学状况之后，着重探讨如何在新课程标准的指导之下，克服阅读教学中存在的一些弊端，从而优化阅读教学。文章的结论是中学英语教师可以在初中英语阅读教学的过程中充分发挥“新课标”的指导优势，激发学生对英语阅读的学习兴趣，营造课堂气氛，减轻学生学习负担，最终实现提高课堂教学效率、提高学生学习效率的目标。
