Abstract:Nowadays, there are many scholars studying the word “it” at home and aboard. They think “it” full of research value. In English vocabulary, the word “it” is one of the simplest words in terms of spelling. But on the usage, it is very active. In English, “it” almost can be seen everywhere. Its scope is very wide, and the usage is rather complicated. The word “it” is so important in English that it has ever been treated as a key point in the usage and as a hot topic in some examinations. If we do not know the usage and the translation of “it” well, we may make many errors caused by misunderstandings and confusion during the English study and the practice of English. So we should pay enough attention to the usage of “it” and its translation. It is necessary to make a study. It is very helpful in the English study if we understand and master the usage and the translation of “it”.

　　　This thesis aims at discussing the usage and the translation of “it” by classifying, giving examples and quoting several famous sayings to know the related knowledge in order to avoid errors caused by misunderstandings and confusion during the English study and the practice of English. The examples are thoughtful and interesting.

中文摘要:如今，国内外有不少的学者研究It这个词,他们认为此词很有研究价值。在英语中，It这个词，从拼写角度看，可以说是最简单的单词之一；但从用法来看，它却极其活跃，其用法多而复杂,在英文中几乎比比皆是。如果我们不好好理解It的用法与翻译，我们可能会在学习和使用英语过程中由于误解或混淆而犯错误。因此，我们应给予足够的重视，有必要研究It的用法与翻译。了解并掌握了It 的用法与翻译方法与技巧，对英语学习极有帮助。
