Abstract:Based on the translation examples of public signs in Jiangning Stadium and the analysis and research of the effect of Sperber and Wilson 's Relevance Theory, this paper introduces the definition of public signs and reveals the relationship between Relevance Theory and translation. This paper aims to make a better use of the Relevance Theory to translate public signs between Chinese and English and to make the translation of public signs elevated to a new higher level. This paper also hopes to reduce the mistakes of the translation of public signs and shows the convenience of public signs to foreigners , thus making a good impression to them.
