Abstract
Reading ability is a very important skill for students to learn English. There is a clear requirement on English reading in Primary school by New Curriculum Standard, stating that students should not only read the simple story and the short essay, but also develop the habit of reading according to meaning groups. But the reality of English teaching on reading has highlighted many problems, which made the development of English in Primary school stagnant. Based on the current situation of English reading, this paper tries to analyze the significance of English reading teaching in primary school. Meanwhile, it sets to elaborate the teaching strategy of English reading in primary school in accordance with the latest curriculum standard, which attempts to provide English Reading Teaching in primary school with references. The thesis is divided into four groups. The first part provides the background information of the research and analyzes the significance of English Reading Teaching in Primary School. The second part roughly inquires into the principal problems and deficiencies of English reading in primary school. The third part primarily discusses the objectives of English reading teaching in primary school. The fourth part presents ideas on English reading strategies in primary school. To improve students’ English reading ability, it’s necessary for teachers to enhance the training of English reading skills and to exploit interesting English reading materials. Meanwhile, it’s the school’s duty to create favorable reading atmosphere and too design English reading teaching.
