Abstract
Reading is one of the main ways for people to acquire knowledge and information, and communicate with the outside world. For the middle school students in China, English reading ability directly affects their English reading efficiency, English comprehensive ability and even the final result of English study. Therefore, the cultivation of English reading ability is an important goal and procedure in English teaching. The paper is based on the Chinese middle school students' English reading. Firstly, it analyzes the causes of the development of influencing reading ability, including students' lack of vocabulary, the lack of interests, bad reading habits and the cultural differences. Secondly, it introduces the effective strategies and methods in order to improve students' reading ability.
