Abstract
In the study of metaphor, researches about grammatical metaphor and conceptual metaphor are not rare. However, almost all of the studies have been carried out on their individual studies, and few researchers have compared them under the same framework. After a systematic analysis of both grammatical metaphor and conceptual metaphor, we can find that grammatical metaphor and conceptual metaphor are just two different perspectives of metaphor. As a matter of fact, their views and theories are different, but there are a lot of similarities and overlaps. Based on the basic theories of grammatical metaphor and conceptual metaphor, this paper makes a comparative analysis of the two aspects from the perspectives of function, working mechanism and cognitive motivation. Finally it comes to the conclusion that conceptual metaphor and grammatical metaphor have fusion and complementation in many aspects. This conclusion can help us understand and interpret metaphors in a comprehensive way. Key words: grammatical metaphor; conceptual metaphor; fusion; complementation; contrast
