Abstract
With the accelerating pace of the economic globalization, the economic exchange and communication across various countries are becoming increasingly frequent and more and more foreign visitors have flooded into China. In the last few years, budget hotel industry boomed in China and became popular among travelers both at home and abroad due to its comfortable environment and affordable price. The hotel profile, a significant way for visitors to know more about the service, facilities and some related information, plays an important role in the development of the hotel. A well-written profile can enhance the hotel’s image, effectively propagate the hotel and raise the occupancy rate. Therefore, in order to meet the needs of numerous foreign visitors, many budget hotels also roll out Chinese and English hotel profiles in succession. After investigating, however, it is easy to find that the translation of hotel profiles in most local budget hotels has not received enough attention and there are still many deficiencies which will have a bad effect on the development of the hotel. In this study, the author finds out the problems in C-E translation from the view of lexis, syntax and discourse and puts forward four translation strategies: reconstruction, abridgement, addition and adaptation. The main research methods of this thesis are documentation method, exemplification and comparative analysis. The study aims to provide a reference for the further translation by the analysis of errors in the translation of budget hotel profiles and the research of possible improvements. At the same time, it is hoped that the later translators will centre on English speaking readers and take cultural differences and the features of budget hotel profiles into consideration, so that the English profiles can truly enhance the budget hotels’ external image, improve competitiveness and reduce the obstacles of intercultural communication.
