Abstract
The teaching of reading in junior middle schools is an essential part of English education. It mainly aims to cultivate and improve students’ reading comprehension ability. The English Curriculum Criteria has been carried out throughout China, and it advocates the approach of task-based teaching and learning. Task-based language approach transforms the basic ideas of language use into classroom teaching method and brings in great significance in practice and it emphasizes that “learning by doing” motivates the students to develop their potential to study. This thesis first examines relevant theory, including the definition of a task and the previous research on task-based language approach. Then the features and certain problems of reading teaching in junior middle school are pointed out. Furthermore, based on the mode of the reading process, the thesis offers the application of task-based language approach in the reading class of junior middle school and pedagogical implications for the reading teaching.
