Abstract
In the age of information, people are required to communicate and cooperate with others better. Cooperation is the catalyst of success, and therefore learning to cooperate with others is the demand of the era and the inevitable requirement of their own development as well. School is the important place to cultivate students’ cooperative spirit and competence. In school, the cultivation of students’ cooperative spirit is mainly accomplished by virtue of cooperative learning. As a learning style advocated by the new curriculum, cooperative learning changes the current situations which overemphasizes reception learning, provides students with cooperative opportunities, cultivate their team spirit and sense of responsibility, mobilize students’ enthusiasm in language learning. It is conducive to stimulating students’ thirst for knowledge, giving full play to students’ potentials, and helping them form positive and efficient learning atmosphere so as to improve teaching quality in an all-round way. By means of specific experiment on cooperative learning in college English class, the thesis aims at exploring the practical application of cooperative learning in college English class, further proving that cooperative learning can arouse students’ interest in learning English, and improving students’ self-directed learning ability and communicative and cooperative competence so as to efficiently improve the quality of college English teaching.
