Abstract
Diet is absolutely necessary in the life of mankind, and even in the existence or development. Because of the differences between Chinese and western cultural traditions, the Chinese and western dietary cultures are different in concept, target, pattern, attribution and nature. We study these differences and then find out the points that can be digested, in order to facilitate the communication about cultures between China and the west. Traditional Chinese culture is agricultural culture and ocean culture, while traditional western cultures reflect diverse life styles in which food is the most representative aspect. In variously cultural contexts ,whether it is in concept,objects,kitchen ware, table ware,or table manners these differences are obvious . But as development of the communication and integration of the international, Chinese and western dietary culture will be developed in common communication.This will play a significant role to promote the communication of culture in the world.
