ABSTRACT
This paper aims to study English Majors' vocabulary-learning strategies, to explore the correlation between vocabulary-learning strategies and vocabulary test scores, and thereby to provide some suggestions for English majors in their vocabulary learning. By conducting a questionnaire survey and a vocabulary test, the author has got the general knowledge of English majors’ vocabulary-learning strategies, and obtained the correlation between vocabulary-learning strategies and English vocabulary achievement. The results show that the most effective strategies for English-vocabulary learning are distinguishing consciously between active and passive words, dividing words by semantic fields before remembering, remembering the Chinese meanings of the words, and memorizing words by phrases and sentences. The author hopes that this study will provide effective methods of learning English vocabulary for English majors and hence improve their English learning.
