ABSTRACT
Kurt Vonnegut, a world-renowned American black humorist, published his masterpiece Slaughterhouse-Five in 1969. This study is based on a detailed analysis of Slaughterhouse-Five and its relevant materials, and argues its style of black humor that shows the absurdity of this world in the depiction of protagonist Billy Pilgrim, in the presentation of fictitious themes and in the revelation of writing modes. This thesis studies Slaughterhouse-Five from the perspective of black humor, appreciates the absurdity of war and this world and analyzes the Tralfamadorian philosophy of time and space.
