Abstract: Harper Lee is a famous American writer well-known for her masterpiece To Kill a Mockingbird, which is popular among readers all over the world. It describes the life in Maycomb in South America during the Great Depression. Through analysis of different attitudes of the Whites towards the Blacks in American society, the paper point out that racial clash is developing in a positive direction and the society begins to accept the Blacks gradually. However, some Whites are still prejudiced against the Blacks in deep-seated mind. It is a complex process to eliminate racial clash totally, which needs the change of the Whites’ minds as well as the efforts of the Blacks. Key words: Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird, racial clash
