Abstract: This paper, based on the theoretical principles of Functional Skopostheorie, presents some C-E translation errors of menus at a hotel in Nanjing ,including the spelling errors,the ambiguous meanings,using the improper words,semantic repetition and stiff translation. The purpose of this paper is to give some helps and references for other translators. The author believes that C-E translation of menus is a very important to convey menu true meanings. Thus, some strategies and methods of menu translation are put forward, such as literal translation, free translation, paraphrase, words conversion translation, flexible translation and transliteration + paraphrase.
