Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the application of context to English vocabulary learning on the basis of context theories. At first, the author reviews researches about vocabulary knowledge, the relationship between context and vocabulary, and context theories at home and abroad. And then takes some typical examples from two aspects of application of context theories to English vocabulary learning: 1)application of partial context to vocabulary learning; 2)application of entire context to vocabulary learning to analyze vocabulary learning in different contexts. Finally, the author discusses how to utilize contexts to learn English vocabulary efficiently. Key words: vocabulary learning; context theories; application of context
