Abstract
The communication channels in the field of Chinese and foreign cultures tend to be diversified recently. As one of the important communication forms, films and TV usually enjoy the great popularity among people around the world, and the translation quality of the subtitle for films and TV series has a marked impact on audience of target language, such as the understanding about films or TV series and the appreciation of art embodied in films or TV series. This thesis, based on different translation versions for the subtitle of Prison Break, mainly discusses the effective application of the domestication strategy and the foreignization strategy in the subtitle translation by contrasting and analyzing part of excellent subtitles translated in Chinese. The purpose of the research is to reveal the important role which domestication strategy and the foreignization strategy play in subtitle translation.
