Abstract
With the development of network media, not only foreign film and television works in the subject matter carries on the tendency of entertainment, but also the entertainment is reflected in the subtitle translation, which is usually shown in different methods, such as a large number of network catchwords, ancient poetry, sinicization words, etc. At the same time, rewriting is one of the means by which the survival of a literary work is ensured. Rewriting is defined as “anything that contributes to reconstructing the image of a writer or a work of literature.” The images constructed by rewriters play a more important part in societies than those by original writers, there are more images to choose from and ordinary readers, are exposed to rewritings much more frequently than they are to original writings. Based on Lefevere’s theory of rewriting in translation, the thesis takes the movie Kung Fu Panda 2 cartoon film as an example, and analyzes the rewriting methods in the English film cartoon subtitle in the light of specific examples, including the use of idioms, the use of sinicization words, the use of catchwords, the use of Chinese elements, and the use of addition. And the thesis depicts the influencing factors to reveal the rewriting and the importance of rewriting theory in the subtitle translation of English cartoon movies, in order to enrich the research on subtitle translation.
