教材内容分析 This unit is the second unit in the fifth volume of New Senior English for China. This unit mainly focuses on the United Kingdom, which is not familiar to students. The unit talks about the British geography, history, culture, and places of interest. English has stemmed from the UK. So it is necessary for students to have a basic knowledge about the UK. As students are interested in reading stories, the teacher should teach this unit in the way of telling a story. The teacher should do so especially when the two reading passages which mainly tell geography, history, famous cities and the culture of the UK are taught. The unit involves the words, phrases and sentences about geography, the knowledge and the structures of the passages which describe the famous buildings, and the grammar, using the past participle as the object complement. Students should also master the distributions of the administrative region, the changes of history involving four administration regions, four invasions, the places of interest in London and the royal family of Britain. The unit also focuses on improving students’ ability of words. By studying this unit, students can have a clear knowledge towards the United Kingdom and can use these new words in different contexts, summarize the main idea of each part of the passages and can improve their inter-culture communicative awareness.
