Abstract: Addition is an important translation method in E-C translation of news headlines. The author of the thesis intends to find an answer to the following research questions concerning the employment of addition in the above-mentioned field. First, why is addition frequently employed in translation of English headlines? Second, what is added during the translation process? Third, is addition generally used alone or is it closely related to other translation methods? The thesis is composed of four parts. The first part is a general introduction of the background of the research; the second part is an overview of English news headlines including the definition, significance, and features of them; the third part discusses the significance of addition in translation of English news headlines and the elements which are added in the renditions; finally, there is a conclusion to address the above-mentioned research questions.
