Abstract
Translation is the transformation between languages and cultural exchange. This is the basic nature of translation. Translation and culture are always inextricably linked. Language is an integral part of culture. At the same time, it is the carrier of culture. However, there must be cultural differences among different languages, which constitute an obstacle to translation. In this sense, one of the purposes of translation is to establish cultural equivalence between the original text and the target text. A Dream of Red Mansions is a classic book with rich connotation of Chinese traditional culture, which provides a lot of material for discussing cultural issues. Since 1970s, the "cultural turn" emerged in translation research and the cultural insights in translation has become the focal point to the scholar, especially the "A Dream of Red Mansions”, an encyclopedia of Chinese culture. So, its two version of translations has obtained the remarkable attention. The researchers of the translation of the Dream of the Red Mansions are divided into two groups, one of which study the different translation strategies chosen by the translator in the process of translation, and the other of which study the factors that contribute to cultural differences in translation Hong Yanliang who chose the latter research direction pointed in her article named “Research the Influences of Cultural Differences on Translation from the Two English Versions of "A Dream of Red Mansions” that the following reasons lead to the cultural differences in translation. 1.The translator's cultural background is different 2.Differences in thinking ways between east and west 3.Eastern and western cultural etiquette is different |
