Abstract:In recent years, scholars at home and abroad pay more attention to color words. Based on previous research, the writer attempts to make further exploration and study on the analysis of cultural connotation of English and Chinese color words from black, white and red. This thesis firstly introduces color words, cultural connotation and the importance of black, white and red. Then, from two perspectives of positive and negative cultural connotation, this paper analyzes the similarities and differences of cultural connotation of English and Chinese color words from black, white and red. Finally, the causes of differences are discussed from the aspects of cognition, religion and cultures. Though the methods of literature research and descriptive research, the aim of this thesis is to help people have a better understanding of cultural connotation of English and Chinese color words from black, white and red, in order to effectively improve cross-cultural communication.
