Abstract
News play a key role in the information communication and people pay much attention to the news headlines which act as the soul of the news. The thesis takes the news headlines as its subject, giving an analysis of the data from January to March in 2015 in China Daily website under the guidance of Skopostheorie. It shows that the news headlines translations in China Daily are more suitable for the characteristics of English ones. Any translation has its purposes and should serve its aims. China Daily, without an exception, is the window to the western readers. In order to let the world know China better, its translation has adopted flexible translation approaches such as literal translation, free translation, amplification, omission, conversion and restructuring.
