Abstract: Tinker Bell, a character in Peter Pan, is full of symbolism. A deeper understanding of the work can be got by seeking the inner meaning of this image. Through the study of Tinker Bell’s name and her paradoxical character, the author finds that this character has two different identities: fairy and child. Therefore, this paper analyses her two different identities, aiming to explore the symbolism of each identity and the significance of this image. The conclusion can be drawn that as a fairy, Tinker Bell is a symbol of innocent soul. But as a child, she represents children’s psychology of kindness-evil-intertwined nature, anxiety of concerns as well as awakening self-consciousness of children. Key words: Peter Pan; Tinker Bell; fairy; children; psychology
