Abstract: A Tale of Two Cities is a novel written by Charles Dickens, which is set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. The novel describes the tortuous experiences of the Manette family and the couple of Darnay and Lucy. It depicts the plight of the French peasantry demoralized by the French aristocracy in the years leading up to the revolution. This paper is to analyze two views of love reflected in A Tale of Two Cities-one is sharing weal and woe embodied by Darnay and Lucy; the other is to love is selfless sacrifice embodied by Carton towards Lucy. From the above analysis, we may from a sharper understanding of what is true love. Key word: A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens, views of love
