Abstract：Most women described in The Great Gatsby are beautiful and charming ,but they are selfish, cold, hollow, materialistic, and even parasitic. They have no positive images and are served as a foil to men’s images. This thesis aims to explore the causes of the tragic life of Daisy based on the analysis on the author's own experience and the background of that era . Her unethical images and tragic life are connected with patriarchal society closely. She is the victim of that society.
