摘要：阅读是英语学习的一项基本技能。英语作为第二语言，已经变得越来越重要。随着世界经济的全球化，英语已逐渐成为一种世界语言。因而大学生的英语学习能力与要求也随之越来越高，而英语阅读能力的提高是英语学习能力提高的重要因素之一。因此对于一个英语专业的大学生来说阅读英文经典著作的重要性已经是不言而喻的了，多多阅读英文经典书籍可以帮助英语专业学生加深对英美文化的了解。本文对山东青年政治学院英语专业大一至大四的大学生进行随机抽样问卷调查，通过问卷与访问相结合的方式来了解这些学生的英文经典阅读状况。经调查发现当代大学生对英文经典名著阅读方面存在着缺乏阅读兴趣、阅读目的不明确以及过度依赖母语等问题，笔者通过数据分析分别对学校方面、图书馆方面、教师方面以及学生自身方面等提出了一系列相关建议，希望能以增强校园的阅读氛围、提高学生的阅读积极性。
