Abstract: After an analysis of the era background of the French Revolution and the psychology of different class people in the novel, It can be found that the rationality and justice of the revolutionary movement and its ruthlessness and violence can be seen as two sides of a coin, they cannot exist independently while they are at opposite poles. This dissertation hopes that according to the analysis of the rationality and justice of the revolutionary movement and its ruthlessness and violence, readers can have a more objective understanding of the existence value and significance of the revolutionary movement while they are knowing more about A Tale of Two Cities.
