摘要:英语第二课堂教学是课堂教学的重要补充,有助于激励学生的英语学习。为了找出提高学生英语学习质量的方法,常熟市外国语初级中学积极开展了英语第二课堂教学,并且引入了 Toastmasters 这一活动。Toastmasters 是一个教育性的课程,其目标是提高会员的英语表达能力和领导力。Toastmasters 的活动在全世界取得了巨大的成功,同时也被逐渐运用于英语教学中。作为常熟市外国语初级中学英语第二课堂教学的志愿者, 笔者尝试在建构主义理论的指导下将 Toastmasters 运用到英语第二课堂教学中。建构主义理论的主要教学原则即“情境教学”、“学生中心”、“交流协作学习”三个方面为 Toastmasters 的运用提供了理论指导。本研究旨在阐述 Toastmasters 的运用过程,笔者希望由此来丰富初中英语第二课堂的教学模式同时也希望能为Toastmasters 在英语第二课堂教学中的发展带来新的启示。

ABSTRACT Application of Toastmasters to English Second Classroom Teaching in Junior Middle School Based on Constructivist Theory English second classroom teaching which is an important addition to regular teaching motivates students to learn English. To find out a better way to enhance the quality of students’ English learning, Changshu Foreign Language Middle School adopts Toastmasters to students’ English second classroom. As an educational program that aims to improve members’ public speaking and leadership skills, Toastmasters has achieved great success all over the world and is being applied to regular English teaching. Being a volunteer to Changshu Foreign Language Middle School’s English second classroom, the author tried to apply Toastmasters to the English classroom teaching with the guide of constructivist theory. There are three main teaching principles in constructivist theory including “situational teaching”, “student-centered teaching” and “communicative and cooperative learning” which provide the theoretical foundation for the application. This paper aims to elaborate on the application process of Toastmasters. By conducting such a study, the author hopes to enrich the teaching pattern of English second classroom in junior middle schools and inspire the development of Toastmasters in English second classroom teaching.
