INTRODUCTION

In this translation practice, chapters 3 to 4 of Peace in Friendship Village are selected as the translated text. This book is untranslated and has a moderate degree of difficulty. The book tells the story of different people in a small village in the United States, reflecting how cruel American social reality was at the time. The text portrays a man named Geoffrey, who emigrated to the United States alone and worked hard to save money to pick up his wife and children to live in the United States. Geoffrey is still trying to live in the face of all kinds of cruel realities and keeping a simple and kind heart.

In this translation, i chose the appraisal theory to help me understand the character image and characteristics of the text well, and then embody them in my translation to make it easier for Chinese readers to understand the characters.

The essay is divided into four parts: The first part is an introduction, which briefly introduces the background information of the translated work, as well as the reason and significance of translating this novel. The second part gives a brief overview of the translation practice. The third part mainly expounds the problems encountered in the translation process and the basis and methods to solve these problems. The fourth part is a conclusion, which is the summary and reflection of the translation practice.

本翻译实践选取了《友谊村的和平》的第 3 至 4 章作为翻译文本，此书无人翻译且难度适中。该书讲述了发生在美国一个小村庄的不同的人身上的故事，从而反映出美国当时的社会现实是多么的残酷。本次翻译选择的是发生在一个独自移民到美国并努力工作存钱想接妻儿一起到美国生活的名叫杰弗罗的人的故事，杰弗罗在面对各种残酷现实时，依旧努力生活，保持着淳朴善良的心。 

在本次翻译中，我选择了评价理论来帮助我更好地理解人物形象、态度与特点，然后将其很好地体现在我的译文中，从而使中国读者更容易理解原文中的人物。 

小论文分成四大部分，第一部分是引言，对翻译作品的背景知识作出介绍。第二部分是简要概括所选材料的主要内容；第三部分主要阐述翻译过程中遇到的问题及解决的依据和方法；第四部分是结论，此部分是对此次翻译实践的总结与思考。
