内容简介

本翻译实践所选书籍为《半个女友》，是印度作家Chetan Bhagat创作的一部英文爱情题材的畅销小说，并且已经被翻拍成电影。小说一经出版，广受印度读者欢迎。小说语言简单朴实，故事情节曲折动人，对主人公的心理描写非常细腻。小说内容结合印度社会现状，描写了男主人公Madhavhh和女主人公Riya突破重重障碍最终美满幸福的爱情故事。

此书共四十六个章节，我所选取的是第五章至第八章。这几章节是整个故事的发展阶段，男女主人公对彼此了解加深，感情升温，尤其对男主人公内心复杂矛盾的情绪心理描写十分细致。

该书第五章叙述了男女主角对彼此了解加深后两人相处的一系列活动，男主对女主表白心意，女主拒绝，重点描写了男主的心理变化。

第六章讲述了女主在参观男主的住所后两人进行的对话，凸显了两人贫富差距之大，推动情节发展。

第七章讲述了男主的舍友一致不赞成男主追求女主而进行的对话，分析了两人身份的悬殊，为下文男主真正了解两人地位的差距埋下伏笔。

第八章讲述男主去女主家中做客受到的一系列冷眼和嘲笑，男主真切体会到两人感情的阻碍。

作者一方面通过故事反映印度的阶级问题，另一方面表达了低层人民渴望突破障碍，追求美满爱情的愿望。

小论文部分首先简述小说内容，然后简述翻译过程以及翻译过程中的问题和解决方法。最后总结了本次翻译实践的意义。

INTRODUCTION

The book to be translated is half girlfriend, a best-selling novel written by an Indian writer Chetan Bhagat. This novel has been turned into a film. Once published, this novel was popular with Indian readers for its simple language and complicated plots. The psychological descriptions of the male protagonist are very delicate. Based on the current situation of Indian society, the novel depicts the love between Madhavhh and Riya who break through obstacles and finally achieve a happy life.

The book has 46 chapters, I select chapters 5 to 8 to improve my translation skills. These chapters are the developing stage of the whole story. Madhav and Riya understand each other deeply and their relationships warm rapidly. In particular, there are substantial descriptions of the male protagonist’s emotions and psychological activities.

The fifth chapter describes a series of activities of Maghav and Riya after they understand each other further. Maghav expresses his love to Riya, but Riya refuses  him. This chapter focuses on Madhav’s psychological changes. Chapter 6 is their dialogues after Riya visits the dormitory of Maghav, pointing out the gap between the rich and the poor. In chapter 7, Maghav’s roommates are object to him pursuing Riya, analyzing the disparity of their identities. Chapter 8 tells a series of differences after Maghav visits Riya’s home, and Maghav realizes their love obstacles deeply.

The first part of the essay is to briefly describe the contents of the novel, and then briefly describe the translation process and the problems and solutions in the translation process. The last part of the essay is the summary of the significance of this translation practice.
