INTRODUCTION

The book An Indian Girl is the novel of Indian writer Chetan Bhagat. He is the most popular fiction writer in India, and he is listed as one of the most influential people in the word by Time Magazine. The whole story mainly narrated the modern Indian’s Love, dreams, professions and feminism. The main character is a girl named Radhika Mehta who works at an investment bank. She has outstanding work ability, strong personality and dares to live with her own preferences.  

In this translation practice, the life of in New York is selected and translated. The selected part tells the story of her and her first boyfriend Debu. They meet and fall in love. They met at a reception and decided to be together after some time. However, as the work goes on track and the pressure of work becomes more and more serious, and hence the conflicts and problems between Radhika and Debu.

Dialogues and psychological descriptions are the main parts in the selected translation material, with the main methods of narration and description. So in translating, the difficulties are the translation of complex psychological descriptions and dialogues with missing information that are hard to be understood, so it is essential to read and analyze carefully the related parts and experience the protagonist’s mental activity according to the plot and characters. In doing so, it is required to supply the mixing information where is necessary, and finally try to demonstrate independence and self-reliance of the character Radhika Mehta.
